“So are you or are you not in love with me, Miss Porter?” he asks as he fastens his belt.

His voice is deceptively soft and playful.

Grinning, I flick my hair over my shoulder and lock the safety belt as well.

“Are we back to that topic?”

“Mmm-hmm,” he mutters.

A strap slides to the side revealing my breast, prompting his eyes to dip.

“That’s a hell of a dress,” he says, his lips curving into a lazy grin.

“It was before you ruined it.”

He raises his eyes and looks at me intently, ignoring my comment.

“So tell me, baby. Are you?”

His voice is mellow again, his fingers sliding to my shoulder, slowly caressing my skin.

I look at him, fascinated.

Every little gesture that he does bears so many facets to it, tying me irremediably to him.

“No,” I say.

His smile doesn’t falter a bit.

“What is it then?” he asks softly while smiling slyly.

My gaze breaks away from his face for a moment.

“I’m not used to doing this.”

“Fucking?”

I raise my eyes.

Naughtiness reads in his gaze.

I nod, stifling a smile.

“Fucking among other things.”

“What things?”

“Getting attached, for instance,” I say.

He bites the inside of his cheek, unable to stop a grin from creasing his lips and pouring into his eyes.

“Hmmm....” he mutters.

That’s it?

I give him a pointed look. He stays silent.

“No. Seriously now... Are you really considering leaving?”

His smile drops from his lips as he moves his gaze away. Suddenly, I get washed by a bad feeling.

Absently, he runs his fingers through his hair, sucking in a long breath.

“It’s business,” he says with a different voice. “It makes good business sense to go over there. It wouldn’t be permanent,” he adds, finally looking at me.

The seriousness woven in his words makes me see a different part of him. Behind the facade of the playfulness, I get a glimpse of the man who speaks in the boardroom and runs an enterprise.”

“You’re really good at it, aren’t you?”

“Mmm-hmm.”

“Do you like it?”

“Yes.”

“But you are different than them.”

He looks at me surprised.

“Your friends,” I say.

A smile flickers across his lips.

“In what way?”

“They seem to be born for it. You rather taught yourself to do this.”

He chuckles.

“Very perceptive.”

I smile.

“True?”

“Probably.”

“I imagine that you’ve always been a spoiled brat as well,” I say, analyzing his expression for a moment.

“What makes you say that?”

“You like to do things your own way.”

His eyebrows lift, a smile curling his lips.

I grin as well before I continue.

“Like a spoiled brat.”

His chest rocks with laughter.

“I’m not a spoiled brat.”

“Says every spoiled brat.”

He chuckles a bit more.

“I wish I could’ve been more like you, or them,” I say.

“Meaning?”

“Always know what to do, and how to handle things.”

He shoots me a side glance, his eyebrows slightly arched.

“You are too young to worry about that.”

“No, I’m not.”

“You’ll learn when the time is right. I didn’t know any of this stuff when I was your age. None of us did.”

He goes silent, his eyes dipping to my lips, studying them for a few seconds as a different thought crosses his mind.

“So, speaking about doing stuff...” he mutters.
